On Nov. 11, extreme wingsuit pioneer Ueli Gegenschatz died in a Swiss hospital, after an accident during a BASE jump . This spring at TED, Gegenschatz spoke movingly of his desire "to come as close as possible to the human dream of being able to fly." Footage of his spellbinding flights are some of the most captivating on the internet. Our thoughts are with his friends and family, and we honor his vision and legacy.

One of the coolest features in Apple's free iTunes media player is iTunes U, a collection of the best in higher education learning from sources like Stanford, Yale, Texas A&M, the Library of Congress, and MoMA. You can learn a language, learn how to write a business plan, hear Oxford professors discuss the reasons for the global recession, learn Photoshop or the history of Art, or unravel the mysteries of the human genome. If you're interested in global warming, do a search in iTunes U and it will show you a long list of related lectures from all different sources. You can watch one class or subscribe to a whole series. Some lectures are audio only, but many are video, and most include downloadable written support materials. iTunes U is a great source for anyone committed to lifelong learning, and it's all FREE. Right Livelihood Award

The Right Livelihood Award is an award that is presented annually to honor those "working on practical and exemplary solutions to the most urgent challenges facing the world today." An international jury selects the winners in such fields as environmental protection, human rights, sustainable development, health, education and peace. The $310,000 prize money is shared among the (usually four) winners, and any individual or organization is eligible. If you know someone who deserves consideration, you can propose a candidate yourself, and give them the recognition they deserve.

Here's an innovative way to deal with the towering price of gas. A new online service is selling ad space on YOUR CAR. If you drive at least 1,000 miles a month, FreeGasHelp.com will give you a monthly gas card reward of $30 just for slapping an ad on your hub cap or a magnet on your car door. Or go for the full car wrap and earn $200 a month! You can earn additional incentives if your car is bright yellow, newer than the year 2000, is a hybrid or a pizza delivery vehicle, or if you're active military. The program won't help the planet or lower the price of gas, but it may ease your pocketbook until you're able to afford that new hybrid or start riding your bike to work.
